here's the deal: i live in a 3rd world country with shitty roads, so i need to make my e60 softer.
right now its on 17" wheels - which are standard for xi models.

i want to put it on 16" wheels to make it ride softer, but the dealer said that the xi model breaks simply wont fit into 16" rims.

but what if i change the brakes too? to the ones that are on regular models (non xi)? think its possible? could there be any problems afterwards?

also, do you think going from 225/50 tires to 225/55 will make the car any more softer on the road cracks and bumps?

did the dealer have a puzzled look on his face when you said I want to swap my 17" for 16"?

I don't think this is a good idea. Just buy some fatter tires, changing rims and brakes, etc is a lot more hassle, and much more expensive too.

going to 16" wheels and keeping the same rolling diameter would give you 225.55.16's anyway...Changing brakes is easy enough, but going to a smaller rotor/caliper set up would really be a terrible idea in my opinion. I would see if you could just fit a higher profile tire first...or sit on a pillow.

I doubt that you will notice if any difference between 225/50 and 225/55, or even with 16" wheels. You will spend a lot of $ if you want to change the brake system. What make more difference are the shocks, but I think the stock ones are pretty darn good already.

Do you have the 17in runflat tyres? How about changing to softer non-runflat tyres?

What about using lower psi in the tyres?

If you do manage to go to 16in I don't know how pronounced the difference will be anyway.

What country are you in by the way?
