My Ride: 2008 535i, 6spd mtx, Monaco Blue w/Beige interior. Sport, Preimum, Logic 7/HD/I-Pod/USB, Nav sys, rear sunshade, HUD, PDC, Split seats,
Default

All, after having my 535i now for a month and 1400 miles, I must say I'm really enjoying this ride!! A couple of things that I think will make it an even better driving experience are:

PHASE I:
1) Shorter throw shifter (linkage and or knob). I had heard the 550 manual knob was shorter than the 535's...but after researching here, there seems to be confusion on weather it's just a shorter shifter handle or if it's different linkage?

2) CDV valve must go!! Being a new model, I'm going to have to order the CDV valve from my dealer and send it in for "processing"

3) Installed the SprintBooster last week and it made a HUGH difference...worth twice the $$'s I paid Really "lively" off the line and in general now.

PHASE II:

1) Chip to boost hp to 350 - 375 range
2) Exhaust for better sound...not obnoxious, but just a bit louder and deeper...

Can anyone help me clear up the confusion around the 535 vs. 550 mtx shifter linkage?

I think nobody has responded because they want you to be the first, so you can answer all these questions for future newbies and be the 535 king! That said, we expect a full review of your Phase II completion by the end of January.

What your asking is difficult to answer unless someone has put a SSK both in a 550 and a 535. To access the linkage requires that you remove the body pans, grope with your hands to remove the circlips and then remove the linkage. I have a linkage from the 550 I will be happy to take a pic of so you can hopefully compare with the linkage on the 535. With all that said, here is what I would recommend...Purchase an aftermarket SSK (Rogue or UUC with the linkage (WSR - Rogue and DSSR -UUC). Since you will be doing the CDV, the body pans must go anyway which is a big part of the work. As a side note, keep track of the fasteners you remove from the underbody pans. There are different fasteners for different pans.

2) CDV valve must go!! Being a new model, I'm going to have to order the CDV valve from my dealer and send it in for "processing"

or, you could contact Dave Zeckhausen and he will send you a CDV with the guts removed saving you a trip and explanation at the dealer.

Can anyone help me clear up the confusion around the 535 vs. 550 mtx shifter linkage?

Thanks for the reply!! I had heard the 550 stock linkage was a shorter shift linkage OR that it simply had a shorter shift knob? Do you have a pic of the 550i shift know you could post? Also, I did speak with Dave and since the 535i is a new model he does not have any experience with it's CDV as of yet. He suggested I order the valve from the dealer and send it to him.

Again, thanks for the ideas
