Pierburg vs VDO water pump?
Looks like I am going to do my pump and thermostat service and started looking at the parts. Came accross two options for waterpump, OEM vs all aluminum. Which is the one that everyone prefers these days and is one more reliable than other? Alla luminum one being $50 more than the OEM one.

Great thanks Sean. How about the U hose between the two, do you reuse or replace? Also how about the temperature sensor?

I always change hoses with a pump change. Don't want to do the job twice if a hose blows. Temperature sensor is a if you feel you need to type of thing. I changed mine when it went out. They are cheap and not a big deal but if you want to get ahead of it just go ahead and change it

I replaced the thermostat and waterpump over the weekend
For anyone dong this on xdrive E60/E61 particularly LCI models, my one suggestion is to remove the fan and if possible radiator as well. This gives ample room to work out the pump orelse you have to do some crazy gymnastics with your hand to get it in place. The subframe is totally different than RWD cars. Just take your time to figure out the best way that works for you to remove and install them and their hoses, dont rush and start breaking things.
Anyways, after it is done, I started cleaning the underside of the car for any oil and coolant splashes etc and came accross these hose connections that looked suspicious to me on their condition. Is this something that is in immediate attention before any cratastropic happens?
Also, I noticed a lot of differential fluid leak, especially a puddle under the car when I was idling it before while checking the temperatures in the garage. Are these leaks commong to xDrive center differentials?
Just FYI, there are no leaks near or around the transmission electrical connector and anywhere around the pan. The only other major leak I know of is the RMS, which is not an easy thing to fix in a home garage.
