If you're looking for a nice HP gain in your 550, try removing the charcoal filter. If you don't want to do it yourself I will be glad to do it for $500 Seriously, it's a great little mod that adds HP and a bit of sound and can be done by anyone in a few minutes.

Absolutely. The miniscule claimed power gains from the Dinan mods to the 550 are not worth the money. They are a ripoff.
Come on Scott, you make me feel like I got ripped off by Dinan

Just kidding! I'm very pleased with Dinan despite all the recent negative comments, will do a dyno when the weather gets cooler.

^^^ Have you seen Scott's 550? That is a very nice example of a black 550!!
Thanks. It is still much more stock than modded. I have a SB, a ton of lighting mods and I just installed an ACS style rear spoiler. But I still run OEM wheels (my beloved 172s which I will never part with) and I don't have a roof spoiler, modded rear diffuser, carbon fiber inserts or splitters (and will not be getting those things). I will not be tinting my tails, tinting my windows or blacking out my grill (I like the OEM look for those).

I was thinking about an ECU reflash but I am not convinced that it will gain me enough power to be worth the money and after the thread about the 550 not showing any power gains on the dyno after something like $4,000 of Dinan mods, I won't be getting any of those for my car. I have not seen any evidence that any of the aftermarket cold air intakes actually gain power so I won't be putting in those.

I can't do an aftermarket exhaust (if I could I would do RPI's in a heartbet) because, living in an apartment, I have no space to store my OEM exhaust for lease turn in. I will certainly not be doing the dual duct modification as I lease my car.

I am thinking about a single RPI ram air scoop (in black).

My car is Carbon Black, which, in the sun, looks more like very dark blue than black. But in low light, the car looks black.

If you are pleased with your Dinan mods, that's all that matters. The recent thread about them in another car was very disappointing as I was seriously thinking of getting the Stage 1 ECU reflash.

I installed my RPI scoop when I did the black grilles. The sport 550i really doesn't have any chrome other than the badge so I blacked the grilles. I notice the additional power with the RPI.

pjinca,

Your spoilers are nice!! You have a link to where you got them? I like the spoilers that go over the rear window the most.

Thanks, my spoilers came from 4 motors on eBay - much cheaper than real ACS. I had a group buy for other members but not enough took advantage so the price went up. I will see if I can find you the link.

Yes most RPI scoop owners say that their car feels a bit stronger when at speed (that is, when the ram air effect gets going).
