My Ride: On order for November Delivery - 550 !!!! - Currently own 1999 E39 540, sport pkg, premium sound pkg, black on black. Previous owner of 2000 M Coupe, 1996 328is, 1984 633csi, 1982 528e, and wifed owned 1999 528 touring and 2002 525 touring. Looking at buying 545 or 550 in fall of 2005.
Has anyone in the U.S. looked into or done this mod of adding steering wheel paddle shifters to a steptronic E60?

I was thinking about it, but it's too expensive for me. I need to replace my current steering wheel with the sport one and air bag, too. That's run for about $1000 plus paddle shift and so forth. I am thinking about 550 with SMG.

Nice to know that you have the SMG wheel with paddles installed for your Steptronics tranny. I thought that someone in this forum mentioned before that Steptronics tranny was not able to have this mod.
Did Hobi has this modification posted in his website ??

SMG paddles with steptronic can not be ordered from BMW. IT is not an option.
You have to do it on your own using Hobi's kit and invetion.
