may i ask, why? i find it hard to get a one fire tire on my 550i.

Just sent the diff to the machinist. Removal was straightforward:

More traction and better control with traction control turned off. We have what is called open rear ends Without computer intervention one tire would spin while no power is sent the the other wheel. With intervention the computer applies brakes to the spinning tire and/or reduces throttle in order to reduce tire spin. Put this in and there is less intervention as more power is applied to both wheels.

Diff removal looks pretty straight forward (4 main bolts?)

Its pretty easy. Just unbolt the driveshaft and axles and you can wiggle at least the driveshaft free. The axles required a bit of prying/tapping lightly with a mallet. The differential is heavy. One person can lift it though.
