Ok, I hate to make a new topic about this, but I couldn't find my answers with a search.
The dealer overfilled my coolant and the little bobber is pretty much all the way at the top in the coolant expansion tank. Is this really bad for the car?
Can I just siphon the excess out of the coolant expansion tank?

I don't see how it would hurt anything......if anything, it may overflow the excess when the engine heats/ cools. Just get a turkey baster or syringe and suck out the excess

Yea but will too much pressure in the sytem harm the pump?

I will just take some out today.

 

Thats what the "expansion tank" is for. Not sure on these cars, but most other cars have an overflow release usually on the cap of the expansion tank to expel unwanted coolant from the system. Just for the "fact of the matter", I would take it back to the dealer, and make them correct their mistake

 

I don't feel like waiting 2 days so they can suck some of that coolant out of there. Ito do drop the car off, I wouldn't be surprised if the coolant is low when I get it back...

 

Did your dealer top off your coolant or was it flushed and replaced?

If the latter, they probably topped it so that any trapped air would be eliminated (over time) and the coolant going to the proper level. Besides, even if the coolant is filled to the tippy top no harm will result - it is the "expansion" tank. Excess coolant will vent the system w/o causing 'too much' pressure in the system.

 

They only topped it off. Thanks for the tip, I will see if the coolant level drops a little in the next few weeks.
