Hey everyone, i recently bought a set of OEM M5 mirrors. I was able to test fit the driver side mirror without issue. however after spending like 3 hours meticulously wrapping the passenger side mirror matte black to match my car (assuming that it would fit smoothly like the driver side) i tried to test fit it before i completed my wiring...but it doesnt fit my car AT ALL!
my car is a February 2004 built 545i....i already have NVD replica M5 mirrors installed w/o a problem. why in the world do these mirrors not fit? the person i bought them from says that they are from a US donor car...and definitely and M5. What gives?
Either way it goes....they simply do not fit. Shame too, i had already research the coding necessary to get these beauties to autofold via key fob. im a bit heartbroken and the search for OEM mirrors resumes
check out the pics....holding the OEM mirrors up to the door and my NVD reps (still painted Silver Gray) you can see that the passenger mirror has this weird curvature to it...not a straight triangle like the space allows on my door. also, the entire base plate is HUGE compared to the space allowed for the mirror on my door....im so confused here. maybe its an M6 mirror? Maybe its a RHD mirror from Europe or something?

ok, well it was my first attempt but it took me nearly 2 hours to complete. it sucks....but honestly the only way to do it well is to take the completely apart. once you do that you can wrap the mirror itself (removing the lower cap) and then the base. use generous amounts of heat (via the use of a heat gun) for those contours. but a word of caution, you cant stretch it too hard or it will tear. learn the limits of the material and it will do awesome things for you.
another very viable route would be black plasti-dip or spray vinyl...both are removable and non-permanent.

Aw, sucks to hear Chris. I guess you were probably too excited and overlooked the mirrors being off. Maybe you can go back to the seller and find out wtf.
John, I would probably just pay a guy to do the wrap for the mirrors if I were you. I doubt you intend to take them apart to wrap, so just get a dude with experience from Craigs or something. Shouldn't be more than $50 or so. Would save you the headache in my opinion.
