stormace, no expert, but just looking at your tread vs. JDN's, it's clear your tires have a lot more miles on them then JDNs' do. You can see it in the solid strip between the water removing tread and the handling tread. On JDN's there are small slats or cuts in this strip on his, but your's have worn away. What is the mileage on them? And it probably just a smudge, but on the picture of your tire, there appears to be a funny looking spot that almost looks like some uneven wear. I don't know, maybe is just picture.
And now I've just seen your front tire pictures, and one tire appears to have much less wear than the other. Looks funny to me.

Sorry for the multiple posts,
But I noticed that the 2nd column (tread) counting from the outside, has horizontal lines across, but my rears and the front left do not show that, my front right does. Are they worn? These have been used for about 5500 miles. Normal treadwear or excessive wear?
this link is what the tire is supposed to look like when new.

I understand that these are used, could this be the problem? Worn out treads causing me problems? (ie. tire rotation sounds at low speeds)

Personally I think with the treadwear you have you they are definately not worn. At least 10.000 miles can be driven on your tires so they are worn for 1/3.

How many miles do you have on your treads JDN?
here is a shot of my right rear tire. Any thoughts? I'll take more pictures of the rest.

JDN, the rears are shot from where behind, where the exhaust is. The fronts are shot from where the fog lights are, in front of the car.
Can you possibily take another current picture of your treads at 6000 miles?
I just want to know if the sound I hear is normal or abnormal considering I have a non sport suspension 530i.
I just went and drove it around the block again, at cruising speeds of 40mph, I can definitely hear the tire rotation sounds very prominently. Is this ok?

Your sound would be abnormal for me. Are you sure it is the tires you are hearing and not a bearing? Anyway, here is a shot of my right rear at 6089 miles. Looks much better than I thought it would. I just might get 30,000 out of these and still have my fun.

JDN your having to little fun with your car!!! j/k
I really hope my tires hold out as long as 30.000 miles.. With my winterset in the winter I should make it three years with my two sets.. I know Andy545 managed to do this with is 328!

Boy I have to say, Mine are as load as a frieght train. I have 15000 miles on mine and can't wait for them to wear a little thinner so I can justify replacement. While the run flats provide some peace of mind, the ride and noise don't !
