I recently bought a set of used 124 style rims with 18'' runflat dunlops running 245 fronts and 275 rears with about 5500 miles on them. I placed the tires on my car and I noticed a swooshing sound while the car is cruising at speeds lower than 30mph. It gets louder once the car slows down, sounds like I can hear the tire rotations.

I have heard that the suspension on my non-sport 530 rides higher than the 545 sports suspension, and these tires sit slanted to hug the road, therefore no swooshing noise. How do I remedy this noise? By lowering the car? Lowering to achieve the slanted profile of the tires? Please help!

Lowering will not change the noise tires make. So this is not a solution for you. It is well known that the runflats on 18 inch make more noise then non-runflat tires. The ride is a bit harsher too. In Holland we can order the 18 inch wheels without lowering the car (we don't have a sportpackage) so that means it is not necessary to have the sportpackage with 18 inch wheels.

My experience has been different. I know that you have tire problems, but the Dunlop 18s are absolutely quiet on a smooth road surface. On a rougher surfaced pavement, usually concrete, they do make an audible noise, but on a smooth blacktop they are extremely quiet. That may change as they wear down - usually does but not at this point.

How do I solve this tire rotation noise? I have checked that my dunlops are mounted correctly (the arrow points to the front of the car). These dunlops came off a 545i sport suspension car. Does that matter?

I also have heard that shaving the tires will decrease the tire rotation noise. I understand that the dunlops are low profile and will make more noise, but the noise I hear is absolutely loud. All I hear is the tires rotating while at speeds under 30mph. Is that normal? My OEM original rims were very quiet!

By the way, how many miles do these Dunlops last before I need to change them or hear significant road noises?

Additional noise with additional wear is the norm, but it does not necessarily become really noisy. My last set of Michelins were quiet all the way for 25k. I hope to do as well with these Dunlops, but may have to alter my driving pattern to get there.

The arrow on the wheel does not indicate direction. The word "OUTSIDE" is what you look for. Note in the JPEG below. I will load another JPEG in the next frame to show what a correctly mounted tread looks like.

In this picture, the water removing tread is mounted to the inside and the handling tread is mounted to the outside. That is true for all four Dunlops, front and rear. In this picture, the tire is rolling towards you. I imagine that yours are like this and you do have OUTSIDE embossed on the outside tire surface.

How many miles do you have on your treads JDN?

here is a shot of my right rear tire. Any thoughts? I'll take more pictures of the rest.

As far as I can see your tires look fine.. Maybe you can compare the sound of the tires with a local member.
