Ha Ha..Like I mentioned, I use it for night flying. It is pretty bright at night and would be visible in lit underground parking structures depending on color. Only LEDs would give you the "Orion-like" daytime brightness you want.

On another note, the LED would look segmented unless the light conductivity of the fin\rods are modified where as the EL tape would look like tiny light sabers.

Yes, that's what I had mentioned earlier as well.
However, I think due to the density of this particular part I am using, gap visibility should be only visible when you're literally up-close on it.
Here's a picture from the vendor's site:

From a video I have seen with the red/amber LED that was used, I think this picture above is actually really representative of what to expect.

Wow, geez, looks like this is going to be more work than I thought.
First of all, the LED is a whole lot thinner than I thought, and it seems it's ridiculously easy to break it off/apart the board.
I am thinking it might be out of question to mount it behind the fins...

Because I love you guys (more like I need a break...)
Here's a pic.
As I suspected, only up-close will the gaps between the LEDs be visible.
First pic is normal and the second is HDR. Still can't quite capture the gap between the LEDs though. They're that bright.
