If this should be on another forum, let me know.

Yesterday I bought an '06 550 with satellite prep. The dealer says satellite radio is no problem, but the main component is not available to any BMW dealers for the next couple of months because new equipment is being made to be compatible with both the Sirius and XM technology (as opposed to only Sirius). I called another dealer and was also told the main part is unavailable, but for a different reason -- they're working out some "problem" with the equipment.

Anyone got any info on this issue? I don't mind waiting a couple months since I've got Sirius in my other car. Just trying to figure out if I'm getting the runaround.

I haven't heard anything, but it makes sense due to merger and all. If it's not driving you crazy I'd say wait.

Yea, there was a thread about this either on here or on Bimmerfest. I recently picked up my 09 535i and was told I couldn't get the sat radio installed until April because BMW is developing and testing the new equipment.

It seems plausible with the XM/Sirius merger!

Anybody have any further updates on this?

I still haven't had my satellite radio unit installed. Waiting desperately for it so I can get some news shows (addicted to BBC). Some dealers are reporting to have the old hardware in stock, but I don't want to install that only to have a non-functioning unit in a year.
