NEW Wheels affecting tire pressure monitor
#1
Hi Everyone,
I have a 525xi, and am planning to put 19in wheels on it. I was reading about tire pressure monitors on this forum, and was wondering If you replace the stock wheels with aftermarket ones, does the tire pressure monitor still work? IF anyone with aftermarket wheels can reply back that would be great!
Thanks,

Thanks,
If you have the older model that just indicates a deflated tyre, then they will work fine.
if you have a newer model that measures the pressures then you will need to fit the sensors on the valve stems.

My car is a 2007, so Im assuming that has the sensors on the valve stems. Does the dealer have to do that, or can I take it to a random wheel shop where I bought the rim to get that done. I am not able to examine the stock wheels because I do not take delivery of the car until a couple more weeks. Thanks for the quick responses.

What are you going to do with your factory wheels/tires? Since you need sensors mounted inside the new rims, you'll either have to buy 4 additional ones or use the ones from the original set.
Mounting the sensors is not something that has to be done at the dealer -- any competent tire mechanic should be able to install them for you...

My Ride: 07 BMW 525i Premium Package, Xenon Lighting Package, manual Transmission. Titanium Grey, 20% Tint around the back, 70% V-Kool on front.
Planned mods: Style 71 wheels with Toyo Proxy 4 tires, Sachs suspension upgrade, upgraded stereo, and many more to come.
Yes, sensors are very easy to install, even I can do it =)
Well the catch is that the new wheel valve stem hole should be big enough to sit the valve stem.
My new wheel stem hole is smaller and now my sensors are not installed on the new wheels (so i always have the TPM warning)
new ones are ~$160 for a set of 4, whereas if you unmount/mount the original it probably will cost you $80, and that also depends what you do to the old wheels (sell them or keep as spare).
You can alway check out the dealer lot and take a look at their valve stem on the car, you will see they are metal now and the sitting surface is flat. Don't need to wait 'til the car comes =D
