It boils down to personal preference but I think 20s are the perfect size for this car. I've actually had people telling me my 20s look too small. haha

If he's increasing the width thereby increasing the contact patch, the handling should improve. Also, I'm sure he's using plus sizing on the tires so the net change should be close to zero from the OEM overall diameter.
Actually he is using larger diamater by an inch. 245-40-18 is stock sport, 245-35-19 is plus 1 and 245-30-20 would be plus 2. Same with the back. He should have 275-25-20s if he wanted to keep stock diamater.

Handling will not improve with more mass however. The contact patch also does not increase but rather changes shape and is wider with increase in width but your right handling should improve from wider tires. The increase unsprung weight I suspect is signifigant with these wheels.

Any weights of these?

And you are right, whatever you are used to and also some wheels look decievingly large or small based on how much of a lip they have or how the design is so I agree to each their own. I think 18s are too small and 20s too big but that is just me!

I did not actually weigh them both, but I think the stock 18" wheels and tires feel heavier.

Looks very nice. Love the height of the car.....
Someone asked earlier about what suspension you have and I didn't see any reply, so spill the beans!

You're right on the 1" increase in overall diameter however I checked TireRack and it doesn't look like they make a 275/25/20 tire; well, at least not at TireRack anyway. Right or wrong though the 245/35/20 and 275/30/20 are the most common tire set up for 20" wheels for this car, or for models that run staggered wheels.

I wouldn't doubt that these wheels are well over 30lbs each but a lot of folks on here are modding more for looks than performance. At least as far as wheel choice is concerned, people tend to go for looks first, sacrificing a bit of performance in that area. Then again, the stock 18 cast wheels with run flats, for example, could be heavier overall than this 20" combo.

Oh I totally agree with the fact the majority of people who get wheels for their car go based on looks considering 99 percent of people will never push their car enough to probably appreciate differences. I however, simply based on my random experience of getting signifigantly lighter wheels/tires, really do know what a difference they make in everyday driveability and zippiness of a car. I am sure with an M5 it would not mean much but with a 545 or 530i especially, I think 40 pounds plus or minus would be really noticable. I do not obviously track the car or do anything other than drive on streets but I am in the minority that I do not like to do mods unless they improve performance of a car, especially considering how much work and engineering go into making a car like the e60 performe so well from the factory.

You are right about the tire but most go to a 285-25 which is much closer to factory specs than a 275-30. Either way I actually think it looks great with the larger diamater because it sure fills up the wheel well nicely. I am surprised he does not rub at all with an inch less clearence? I guess lots of people lower their car however atleast an inch with no problems.

I agree though, great looking set of wheels!

I'm one of those guys obsessed with weight savings also. I switched out my beautiful Radenergie R10 wheels cause they were in the 30lb range and got my current wheels that are 26-27lbs. This was just in Oct. Lately I've been looking at the new B9 Technic wheel below cause it's a 1 piece forged wheel that's only 20-21lbs. But none of my friends like them and told me to keep my current wheels.

Wow those look sweet! Who's car is the black one in your sig? or do you have 2 of them? I love that color and I agree 20's look really nice on your car. I definetly agree and go with weight savings but not to the expense of a crappy looking wheel either. I would rather have something in the 25 pound range than 19-20 pound range if it looks really nice. What people fail to often realize is the best and most effective weight reduction is getting lighter tires. Look on tirerack.com specs and you can see for the exact same size tires the weight varies by 6-9 pounds per tire based on brand and style. Ps2 or general exclaim uhp are the lightest I have found at 23 pounds for 245-35-19 and 25 pounds for 275-30-19. This is compared to many, many tires, especially run flats that are 30 plus pounds per tires. Considering this is the weight at the very outer edge of the wheel, this has far more effect than knocking weight off by getting lighter wheels where the weight is virtually at the center of the rotating mass. So 25 pounds wheels with 23 pound tires is drastically more effective than 19 pound wheels with 30 pound tires for example.
