Hi folks,
I have received the offer from Navteq to purchase their new NAV DVD, version 2005-2. My '05 545i has the prior version.
I phoned Navteq to ask what the differences are in the new version and was told that there is "almost a million miles of new roads in it for the U.S. edition."
But here is the thing I really want to know: Did they make any system changes? I particularly want to know if maybe the restaurants can finally be selected alphabetically instead of by distance from destination.
Two people that I spoke to at Navteq did not know the answer. One other said that the restaurant location thing is in BMW's system, not Navteq's.
Can any of y'all fine folks who already have the 2005 version please offer some wisdom re: THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE NEW DVD AND THE OLD ONE.
Many thanks.

There probably won't be any difference that you'd notice. Navteq just provides the raw data, BMW's NAV system decides what it wants to show you and how.

In addition to what Mark said, keep in mind that the current DVD contains way more data than the BMW software is utilizing at the moment. In other words, if and when BMW decides to add additional features to the interface, it's likely that the features will be available with the current DVD...

Ya, I got a postcard from Navteq too. The million miles of roads added are probably mostly Canada as this version has nationwide coverage of Canada. There will be no change in the functionality of the software as Navteq only provides raw data.

I have it, and have noticed some improved roads in the Atlanta, GA area, as well as some new/updated restaurant data....
Also, I like someone's previous tip on searching by zip code. That's saved me a great deal of time looking up restaurant's and then calling for a reservation (it's a cool feature that allows you to 'call now' from that screen!

[/quote]I'm in Canada and next to some gravel roads out in the sticks which I would never drive my 5 on, the coverage seems to be really good here ...
