I think I might have discovered why on some cars the strobing / blinking does not occur! I took my car in to our local bmw dealer and they upgraded the CIP to the latest version thinking that by doing that it might stop the initial strobing / blinking when I start the car. I also discovered that the dealership also has the required program upgrade that is specific to the new LED Tail lights.
When they ran the retrofit program - what it did was a full diagnostics of the car and then produced a report of what needed to be changed. In my case it said that I needed to change the LCM on my car and gave me a part #9137776 as a replacement part. This part costs about $500, so the dealer promised that they would find out if I really needed to change it.
With the help of a friend at their parts department, I checked out the LCM on their parts system and it seems that all cars after 2006 carry this LCM - since mine being 2005 it was required to be changed.
I have not changed it - still waiting to hear back from my dealership

When does the strobing actually occur? and how did you install it? What wire did you use? How did you get it to work? Does it work like the LCI models?
Lots of question, cuz this will be my first mod if I'm not selling my car.

The strobing occurs when every time I start the car and for a couple of seconds. The I got the new LEDs through a group buy - they did not come with a wire. I got the wire from Bruce (member here) which basically would say makes the light 80 - 90 % functional. I believe its almost identical to the LCI models can spot the difference!
Just being annoyed by the strobing / blinking otherwise I would not bother.

This is probably also why some people need a resistor added to the turn lights and other like me and Nick don't need it.

Let me try calling my dealership today and see if they have anything for me on the LCM. I have access to a 2008 E60 I can compare the differences in functions.... Maybe I should do that!
