I have looked for pre 9/05 M-steering wheels but did not want to spend 750 euro's for a wheel with a used airbag. The only thing I wanted was a thicker wheel with nice leather and now I have found a German ebayer that sends a wheel with new leather and asks for a deposit that you get refunded as soon as you send the old wheel back. I wish I had done this earlier
Very nice!

I checked the site out and they also re-do the M-steering wheels as well. My pre-LCI wheel is not as comfortable (or thick) as the LCI wheel, so I was considering having it re-covered. These prices are very fair. Is it difficult to take the wheel apart without killing the airbag -- how do you go about doing that?

YO!! I just got off the phone with Piotre regarding the Ebay auction for the steering wheel pictured. He has Pre-LCI to 9/05 including 9/05, LCI which is after 9/05 to present. He only has 6 of each so we would so he cannot give all 6 at once as he has other customers.

Piotr first wraps the OEM steering wheels with extra padding to make it thicker like M-sport wheels. He the Wraps the steering wheels with the leather as pictured with the ///M stitching. The final result is gorgeous as you all have seen.

Piortr would ship 5 steering wheels in one box for 50euros/$69.66USD to the same location, Texas/mrfva. mrfva/Frank would then repackage the wheels and send them to each member. Each member would then need to swap out their steering wheel with the re-wrapped wheel and send their old wheel back to Frank/mrfva. Frank/mrfva would then return all 5 steering wheels back to Piotr in Germany.

Each member would need to pay the GB price plus shipping from Germany. Once that was paid, Piotr would ship the 5 wheels to Frank. Frank would need to Calculate shipping for each member and then also calculate return shipping to Germany for the 5 steering wheels and charge each member accordingly. There would be additional costs such as boxes and packing materials not to mention the time and effort involved. Sounds like a pretty big hassle for any member to undertake just to save $30-$40 per steering wheel.

He is selling this service on ebay right now for 130euros/$181.24 USD

GROUP BUY PRICING

Group buy of 5+ members = 110euros/$153.36USD

Group buy of 10+ members = 100euros/$139.41USD

In summation, I don't want anything to do with repacking and shipping, if someone wants to spearhead this great, otherwise I would recommend buying the steering wheels from Piotr individually as $40 savings is not worth the hassle.

Thanks for looking into this, it does seem way too involved for a GB. Could you decipher from either his ebay ad or talking to him if the heating function was still useable?

No problem, Thank you for reminding me as I forgot to ask him about the heated steering wheel function. I am going to contact him again and see if he indeed does have heated steering wheels and what effect re-wrapping them would have on the heating functionality.
I will also contact him regarding each of us buying outside of eBay individually and hopefully we can save some money that way and have them each shipped individually as well. Perhaps he can set up something on PayPal where we could each use a code to redeem the group buy price.

320d touring, sorry to hijack your thread. Your pictures of your new steering wheel have gotten us very excited at the prospect of replacing ours as well. Thank you for posting pictures.

Depending on the look and type of solution you are wanting, I'd recommend WheelSkins as an alternative. It is a leather wrap and lacing that you put on over your existing wheel.

I went with the two-tone (Euro-tone I think they call it), non-perforated... so if you want the real sporty look, you can get perforated leather as well. You can choose your color or colors, even which color is where if you go two-tone.

I have the Dakota Auburn interior and was a little concerned how close the color would be, but it really was pretty dead on. The only thing that gets a little sloppy is around the sides and bottom where it connects, but I really don't mind.
