Finally its here. The moment we have all been waiting for but I think BMW is out of their minds for selling this item at this price. Why don't they just put a gun to our heads. Why am I venting? Just like you I am just going to pull out that credit card and pay for it anyway. I am pissed off.

Just spoke to BMWNA and got the scoop.

The current configuration will not be compatible with the adaptor for E60's built before 03/05. The problem relates to the software in the older head units not being compatible with the adaptor.

A new SW (progman) release is forthcoming which will make the adaptor compatible with ALL E60's produced and the E65 as well.

Good news for us with the early production vehicles and thanks to Elijah at BMWNA for the straight goods on the issue.

I think anyone who pays for this is nuts.

The adapter costs as much as a new iPod itself.

Just get a MosterCable charger with line output. $40

I don't think it's going to be ready THAT soon.

my530i - you are the forums resident electrical genius - why can't they sort it out?
The problem is BMW keeps changing their hardware and they're back-compatible. Software is easy to implement.
One simple thing is just the steering wheel for pre and post-09/05. They're not compatible. Talking about BMW electronic stuffs, they're pooping their mess every single model they design with helps from Siemens, Alpine, Bosch, etc.

I for one will not be pulling out my credit card anytime soon. MP3's on CD (and DVD for those with NAV) work quite well. I have an AUX in and I'm not happy with the sound quality (yes, I know there is a workaround). I'll wait for the early adopters to road test the new kit for me, especially at these prices.

Does anyone know if the E60 has to be equipped with navigation for the iPod interface to be completely functional?

I assume it's the iDrive and "standard" screen that handles the interface, and so navigation would not be necessary.

If for some reason it is required, I may consider changing my recent order just for that.

All that is required is that it be an E60. There is no difference in the part number for cars with or without NAV.

The only issue is that the e 60 can't have the 6 cd changer. The interface runs on the cd changer menus.

I'd rather use DVD slot as MP3 player than sacrifice my CD changer for the iPod.
