My Ride: 545i SMG with Limited Slip Differential
Model Year: 2005
Got parts in November 2007, they remained in the garage for months .
Today is the great day and I can report some impressions of this (superb) mod!
New gears are 7% shorter: it isn't so much for you, but for the use I do of the car was the best solution (I need to travel at 100+ mph) .
Gears passed from (kmh) :
68 115 175 232 276 317
to (kmh) :
63 107 163 216 258 296
and only +200 rpm at 140 kmh :
Before :
Now :
To test it, yesterday I woke up at 6am and at 7am I went to Switzerland (there only 50 km till the border, but that motorway is straight and on sunday morning almost empty).
It is a bullet, not a car: more reactive, more angry and aggressive, it definitely goes (=accelerates) faster than before : in a few seconds, in Drive mode with 1/3 of pedal, it reached 180 kmh then the LIMIT appeared in the cluster .
The car was going so well and the M5 cluster looking so hot that I thought "180 ? let's remove this stupid limit from the iDrive "
I will get a clip during next days, but with Progman CIP 29.2 installed the dealer removed my remap so 7-8 HP less
There is only a problem with this mod : in the normal use the Drive goes well, but pressing the accelerator to the floor it doesn't upshift, remaining at the rpm limit. In other words, in this situation :
the Drive doesn't upshift anymore and remains in D4 @ 6500 rpm till you hit the lever swithing to manual mode .
So Dinan was right .
(Members from California, do you know if they have a remap for this ?)
No prob about the kickdown and normal use, but if you want to use the Drive mode you can press the pedal till max 5000-5500 rpm. If you want to go faster, manual mode and hands on the steering
So if you have manual transmission on 545i/550i, go for it!
If you have SMG .. consider how much often do you use the Drive accelerating to the floor, then go for it all the same!
Despite this little disadvantage, I really love how the car goes!
I will get some clips as soon as possible .
Some pics of the job :

Did you get the 525i Final drive?
Or did you buy an aftermarket part?

The E60 has the 215K differential so imho all differential should be the same, same shape, same parts inside ecc.
But I wasn't 100% sure it was suitable at the end .
So I preferred to buy aftermarket part to be sure of the result, no surprises once opened the diff etc. : the car goes very well indeed and I'm happy in this way .
No HP added, but the car accelerates faster so is like to have more power .
Which transmission do you have, NPe ?

I have manual transmission.
I have actually thought about picking up a 525i final drive at the yard and pop out the output flanges (which is too small for the 545i drive shafts) and try it that way.
