Just a quick question. I should have my new Automatic Shift knob today or tomorrow and will put it on asap. I read that you just pull up on the old one to remove it??? Something also about not knocking yourself out once the old knob comes loose and pops off.

Just did another search on the web and it says some BMW's may have an Allen screw securing the knob?
Pulling the knob off and possibly knocking yourself out goes with manual cars, but I'm not sure how it is with automatics.
edit: I checked the TIS, and it is the same with automatic transmissions. Altough TIS doesn't warn you about hitting yourself in the chin

So no Allen wrench is needed to loosen up the post inside? Also, is there some kind of rail system inside the post to make sure you pull up the knob properly? I would assume if there is a rail system inside it would keep you from twisting off the knob as you pull it up.
No tools, just pull straight, do not twist the knob.
The TIS says exactly this:
The method for removing the grip/knob is identical for manual and automatic transmissions.
Do not twist grip/knob when removing as the turning lock in the knob will shear off.
Detach grip/knob in direction of arrow with a firm tug (the arrow points straight up).
Installation:
Fit grip/knob on shift lever, align and press on until it can be felt to snap into place.
