I want to get a muffler for my 545i SMG.......The problem is that I HATE the typical gargling (sp?) sound that V8's make . I know a lot of people love that sound but it instantly reminds me of a Camaro, Corvette, Mustang, Ford or Chevy truck.....take your pick .

So knowing that I can't really get completely away from that V8 gargle, I wanted to ask how pronounced it is with the various brands of mufflers that you guys have used on the 545i.

JDN..........judging from your sound clips it seems like the Remus has less of the gargle compared to the sound clips of the other brands. Would you say that is true or is it just harder to hear from the sound clips? Also, were you given a choice of the different Remus tail pipe styles or did it only come in one style?

I would appreciate any info from anyone who has replaced their 545's muffler (including price and where it was purchased from).

Thanks in Advance,

rodybmw, for starters, there was only one tip choice for the Remus. The sound clips are pretty representative of the idling sound, probably the power take-off sound clip is accurate enuf, too, but can't say for sure since I have never heard it take off. derrickj listened to a take-off from behind the car Friday night, but we didn't discuss the sound. Maybe he could comment.

From inside the car, the low note is prevalent. Running at a cruising speeds, the exhaust is hardly noticeable and is not distracting.

Hope this helps.

Hey Rodybmw,

The rumble of the V8 is pretty unavoidable. Aside from the sound clips the only other way is to listen to one live. Check your local BMWCCA chapter for any local events and maybe you'll get lucky by finding someone there.

The best description I can give with the B&B is that it has a very "high-tech" sound to it. It doesn't get mistaken for a Mustang or a Camaro or any Truck, that's for sure.

It works for me. As you can probably figure out from my name I sell houses for a living so I can't be rolling around town with something too obnoxious.

The B&B is the only aftermarket muffler that I've heard in person. I think I was one of the first. I just took a chance and am happy with the results. I'd like to hear the Remus in person (but a trip to TX is not in my future, sorry JDN).

For a real smooth sound I'd check with Borla. I can't remember if they have an application for the 545i or just the 530i at this point.

It's hard to describe sound, but I will give it my best shot. I undefined I know the gargling sound you refer to, and JDN's vehicle has none of that. The REMUS exhaust might be a little too quite for some (Harley enthusiasts), but it has a really refined sound. I was specifically interested in it, and had the opportunity to stand directly behind JDN's vehicle when it took off. It sounded powerful, but not loud, my first impression was "classy". Hope that helps, the sound clips are fairly representative of it, but if I were looking to add an aftermarket exhaust the Remus would definitely be on my list.

Yep. We could have had fun with that, too. Maybe next time. I spent a long time shopping for something that would be on the reserved side. But deep within my heart, I want straight pipes!

If I ever go to TX I'd probably never go back to MA.
