I tried to add a sub to my M5 this weekend. My intention was to use a line output converter to convert my rear speaker cables to RCA. Then run those RCAs to the amp. After doing that, I am getting a signal at the sub, but it's very faint. The more gain I give the amp the more signal I get to the sub, but it's minimal.

Here are some photos of what I did. I suspect that the connectors that I used are the problem. I bought wire taps from radio shack to tap the outgoing speaker wires from my Logic 7 amp to the rear speakers. I used the yellow/brown and yellow/black wires for one speaker and the black/red and black/violet wires for the other speaker. I'm not sure which one is + and which one is -. I still think my main problem is the clip on splicer connectors I used. The may be intended for electrical connections, not speaker connections. How should I splice my speaker wires correctly?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

This is not my area of expertise, but it appears that in tapping off of the bass to the rear speakers only, you are getting little, if any, of the bass signal to your new sub. I think there is a sub or subs under the front seats, and it is this signal, with all of the bass information, that you need to get to your new subwoofer.

+1, you are tapping into the speaker line after the oem crossovers so the signal you are getting has no bass

+2, use the subwoofer outputs (they're in that same harness)

Great, thanks for the help so far. Do you guys know what color the wires are for the subs? The subs are under the front seats, right?

Do you think the red radio shack splice connectors are part of the problem?

No the splices should be fine as long as you got the ones for the proper wire gauge.

What color wires go to the subs????

I looked under the seat and found the grilles, but everything is concealed. Does anyone know what the sub wire colors are?

Thanks.

they're labeled "mid-bass" in the attached. I got this from another forum, can't take credit for it.
