[quote name='Bimmer32' date='Oct 5 2005, 10:16 AM']I have sliver grey exterior with black interior. I have shades in the rear and rear side. The damn sun (I travel southbound in the morning and vice versa in the evening) shines on me every day. My eyes have gotten more sensative to light with the eye drops I'm using.

Do you tint your car? If yes, what brand, color, and % tint should I use to match the silver grey and black interior.

My brother, who has the MB S500 said that tinting makes the car look cheap(er), but the sun in Houston is killing me.

Please advise.

Living in Dallas, I can concur with you on the sunshine. This summer has been especially hot. I have tinted all my cars and IMHO, i think cars that are NOT tinted look cheap. My wife's is Titanium Grey, Sport Package and looks awesome with the tint. We went with Formula One Ceramic Tint. It is not supposed to mess with the car's electronics and Navigation system. It wasn't cheap at $399.00 but does have a lifetime guarantee and is high quality. I went with the maximum allowed by law. 35 on the sides, 20 in the back.

On my 550i, I will do the same with the Formula One. You can do a google search on Formula One tint and you can read about the different grades/types.

Some others on this forum, JDN, used Huper Optik, which competes with Formula One. If you do a search on this site for Huper Optik, Formula One Tint, or window tinting in general, you will see many ideas and posts.

Good luck and get it tinted!

Regards, Mike in Dallas. Fall, please come soon!!! :'(

I would go with sunglasses, just to keep your car's selling value more liquid, if you ever want to sell, the potential buyer may think it looks cheap, . . . even if you don't.

Yeah, I called Extreme tint yesterday and they said they were doing one that day, probably Merzbow's E60 and the did a couple the day before. I'm sure they really are wondering where these E60's are coming from. I think EuroCarFan should get a cut, hahaha. He's the one referring everyone to that place. I guess some of those guys are Filipino. I made an appointment for this Saturday. I wanted to try the Madico Onyx but don't wanna take the chance of installing a metallic tint. I'll stick with the Charcool since I haven't heard any complaints. The Onyx might be too dark anyways. It's not like I'm trying to hide from anyone.

I too had mine done with Huper Optik, in a 18% tint, all the way around, you would hardly notice it if you didn't know it was there. The big plus is that it reduces heat gain by something in the range of 67%...pretty cool stuff

I just got 35% all around and 20% on the sunroof at Extreme Tint in Santa Clara (that so many have recommended)... $280. Looks great.

SUNROOF??!!

Hmmm... well... I guess it never gets very hot in San Fran.

But you won't find a window tinter who will tint a sunroof in Florida. If you tint a sunroof, it is almost guaranteed to crack because of the increased heat absorbsion.

Darker glass + direct perpendicular sun angle = super hot = glass expands = CRACK.

I think you may have it the other way around.
The way I understand it (and I could be wrong myself), the percentage is a rough estimate of how much light the film (tint) allows to pass through. Note: this is not a percentage of how much UV filtration takes place.
On the contrary, if the film is indeed 18%, your windows will almost look like a limousine. Quite noticeable.
My apologies if I misunderstood you.

20% all around the side windows. 5% on the back window.
