Thanks..

I can answer this one...Just get one with Navigation! I don't know the exact cost, but the parts, let alone the labor, will certainly add up. Plus you won't have to deal with the headache if something doesn't work properly...Good luck! The 550 is a beast!

I've had BMW NAV in my last 2 BMWs and really like it - and have a Garmin that I use in others not so equipped. So my recommendations are:
Option #1: Hunt a similar 550 w/Nav - retrofitting is expensive.
Option #2: Buy a Garmin (or similar) GPS - they're small, effective, reliable and inexpensive!

I've done the retrofit. trust me, if you don't already own the car, find a car with the navigation to begin with.

Yeah if all else is the same, I would go with the one with navigation. My retrofited navigation still doesn't work and there's no solution to it. The DVD and CD is greyed out. Navigation doesn't work except the compass.

It is a disappointment. Nonetheless, its still nice to see a big screen. That's the only consolation.

How much did it cost? Was it that bad? Can you give me more details with your experience?.... damn, i really love the condition and mileage of the car i'm looking at. And finding a 550i with manual 6 speed has been difficult.

Your car looks great by the way.

Took about 4 months and around 3k to upgrade from business to pro, chasing a half dozen bugs along the way.. Would I do it again? No. I'm happy to have it though since I've done it. The biggest disappointment is that after all that, Nav pro kinda sucks compared to current gen aftermarket navs. BMW's fallen down hard on that. I'm hoping the f10's are up to international standards.

If its really essential and critical, then get one with navigation upfront. Otherwise, take it as a hobby and don't get depressed if it doesn't work. This will make it easier

I have done NAV retrofitting last week.
I really do like my NAV but will I do it again? NO.

Get one with NAV installed.

parts will cost around $1000 or more + time to collect all
(Nav+monitor+fan+Idrive controller+etc)

with programming and labor...total cost will be roughly $1500 minimum

The worst part is there's no guarantee that it will work or not after spending $1500+
