Hi guys!
I am concerning buying a sat nav. I'm thinking about the TomTom Go 700 because it has got a hard drive and I travel pretty much in Europe so I want the all the country maps on the same place. That leads to my two questions:
1. Has any one got the TomTom Go and if you so can you tell me if it's good or not.
2. Where shall I place the TomTom? That is the biggest issue right now.
Another option is to install the BMW pro sat nav at my local dealer but that costs about 4300$
Do you have any opinion on this topic, please post and let me know what you think.
Regards

Don't know much about the TomTom, but I bought a portable Garmin unit, 2610, a couple of years ago and absolutely love it. I have all of Europe loaded on a 1Gb Compact Flash card. It does autorouting, voice directions and is much more user friendly and capable than the BMW system. Added bonus is it is portable so you can fly then use with it in your rental car. Comes with PC software to establish routes before your go. Needless to say...I'm a big fan.

Hi welcome,

YESS I skipped the Siemens VDO Pro nav even that wud be forme 1900? and DO NOT REGRET IT

I have yes Tomtom 700 go Bluetooth
and it kicks ...

it is so amazing, put in on the windscreen either to your leftside in the farest point but I have the HUD so I placed it in the right section of the windscreen or maybe a bit more the center so just over the center LCD and it does not look cheap and I can take it to other cars IT IS SO AMAZING necer got lost or bad directions also keep on going in the tunnel-w ext antenna I am getting the permanent docking kit so the car will constantly be charged and I can use it w spks of the car.

I wanted to have a built in but here in out Forum many have complained about reroting is bad or lsot signal or bad destination with TomTom it is almost impossible, but of course TomTom will never make cars

PS. Garmin is the same is more a copy of TomTom It is reputable Dutch co in EU, maybe in the States they get Garmin easier, I waited for mine TT 700 go BT for 4 weeks, worthed it.

Personally, I've been really happy with my Magellan Roadmate 700. I mount it using a windshield mount and it sits on top of my dash. The touchscreen was the main selling point for me to use it over the BMW in-dash navigation. It makes entering addresses that much better. That being said, the new Magellan Roadmate 760 even has infrared input so you could send addresses to it, which makes it even easier!

I'm also a big fan of the 2610. I have nav on my 2004 530i with the NA 2005.2 maps. The Garmin wins hands down for ease of use and routing capabilities. It allows you to program a route (on the PC and on the unit) using via points. The BMW can't do that. The Garmin is portable to other cars (my own and rentals) and it mounts nicely on my Harley-Davidson. A downside is that it requires a power cord whereas the Tomtom can use batteries.

I think I am getting an external nav too. I like the fact that I can take it from car to car...
