My radio volume button broke
#1
BMW told me they will have to replace the entire radio unit.......... for $1,600..... TO REPLACE A KNOB?!?!?!?! JESUS.
Someone please tell me there is another way? Its just a rubber knob that clearly has broken grooves.

Let me rephrase what I said. My BMW DEALER Motor Werks in Barrington told me that to replace a plastic knob I had to spend $1600 on a whole new radio. I almost couldn't believe my ears when my SA told me that. Does he think I am THAT stupid? Does HE honestly believe this himself that a friggen broken plastic piece can't be replaced easily? I mean c'mon.

Even if he didn't care, he should have been smart enough to realize you will not believe his quote.

I bet the guy didn't even know how to look for the part and told you the easiest way out. That happens in at least 50% of interactions with any customer service.

No shit. Not even 15 seconds searching this board I found a thread with a link to an exact part that costs $18 to fix my problem. Why the hell am I, as a customer, supposed to do this kind of research when my service ADVISOR, is the one that is supposed to be an all-knowing professional?

That's just how some SA's are. Mine tried to tell me that he could not reset my oil service light for anything less than $600. It took me 15 seconds and a push of the knob under the speedometer.
