I was turned on to this little tip a few years back - forgive me if it's old news to the board. It's meant to save the trunklid from those pesky smudges and fingerprints, without tweaking your wrist trying the 'underhand pull to close' routine. This is a Saab (I believe) trunklid handle. It screws in to the license plate bracket under the plate. Pretty nifty, plus the wife can now close the trunk.

Great Idea.

With the Europlate holder I just grab that to close the lid. Works pretty good. Any plate frame should be helpful as well.

Does it get up against the paint when pushing down? I would be interested in lightening up the trunk springs a little. They seem alot stronger than they need to be.

john w, good idea ! where can i get one? i think my previous e39 closed easier than the current e60. too bad we don't have the electronic trunk closer like the m.benz . only good thing about our trunk is easier for us to build up muscles and save the membership fees to the gym .

Am I missing something here? There is a grab handle recessed on the inside of the boot (trunk) lid which is designed for you to pull the lid down to close. You give the lid a reasonable pull and it will come down and close no problem. All BMW's have this design.

you are right but the trunk for the e60 is harder to close than the e39. and our significant halves will have hard time to close the trunk...at least my girlfriend can't close it with the handle. she needs to close it the "traditional" way.

ULtraPLanet - it doesn't hit the paint, but there's no reason you couldn't put felt or rubber bumpers on the back of it.

It comes from ultimatecupholders.com for about $16.

I've also had one for the past 8 years or so, and also moved it from car to car. Mine is an MB part and is still available from them, I believe.

I find it very easy to use the built-in handle to close the trunk. No problems with it...
