My Ride: 2005 545i sports package. All options. Black on Black.
Default

I bought new MRR GT-1 wheels for my 2005 545i (sports package). Took it to NTB but they refused to install the wheels because the front wheels are 8.5" wide while the current factory front wheels are 8" wide. They were saying there is not enough space between the strut and the wheel once they put it together. I have the eagle run flat tire and it has the rim protector lining, which protrudes out a bit to protect the rim from curb.

I bought them from need4speed from California through ebay. They are saying it's not a problem and it's a good fitment and will work fine. The guys at NTB say that the tire may rub the brake lines and create problem. I have seen pictures of 545i with these rims so please advice if it should be ok to install with run flat tires.

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the forum!

Hmmm... NTB's reasoning sounds fishy to me. What's your offset on the new rims?

I've got the MRR GT-1 in 20" staggered set-up:
- front: 20x8.5 offset 20 with 245/30/20
- rear: 20x10 offset 25 with 285/25/20

No rubbing on my car; I expect the same with yours unless you've got different offsets.

Frank, Thanks a lot for your quick reply. Your car looks awesome. Love the color.

The wheels are staggered with goodyear eagle run flats
- front : 18X8.5 offset 20 245/40/ZR18
- rear : 18X9.5 offset 24 275/35ZR18

I will take it to discount tire and ask for mounting them.

Thanks again.

Rahul.

I'm running 8.5x19" GT-1's with 245/35/19 tires in my BMW (actually bought them from the same store as you), zero problems.

Thanks Rahul. If it's not too late, ask them to tape up their mounting equipment before they touch your wheels -- just to ensure that they don't scratch the lips.

I have already gone beyond the one month period where I could have returned the wheels. Called BMW and they said 8.5" is not a problem and it should fit fine. It's only the issue with run flat tire. They may not fit the 8.5" width. I may opt to put two new tires on the front wheels. Back 18"X9.5" wheels are fine with run flat.
I did call the MRR Design guys and they said it shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for all your help.
