Hello!

I have a 523i -06 E60 with business cd, wondering if it can play mp3's?

I have CIP 21.00.00 and "mp3 retrofit for cd" came with CIP 20.00.00 I think...

Is it a parameter setting that enables mp3 handling, because I have tried and I get "Medium cannot be read"....

I am aware of that there are many other questions about this matter here in the forum, but no one really answers my question...

Ok, but is it possible without going to the BMW dealer for a setting change?

Because I have CIP 21 I should not need any software update?
But I guess that BMW like to charge extra for the mp3 enable when you buy a new car and therefore they do not enable the mp3 option in business cd?

if it doesn't play already, you'll probably have to make an appointment with your dealer/SA

Sorry to revive this old thread, I know there are many regarding this issue. My 2004 545i has a build date of 05/2004 and my understanding is that the dealership should be able to enable MP3 playback. However, when I called them today to inquire about the cost, they didn't even know that the car can be reprogrammed to play MP3s (Elmhurst BMW near Chicago) Does anyone know any Chicago dealerships who know what they're doing? They said I would only need to re-program if I get the Aux input installed.

I am a little suspicious of a dealer reprogramming unless absolutely necessary, only because some dealerships act as if things are impossible if they weren't install by factory. Anyways you're best bet is to find an indie shop to help if not a local forum member nearby to help (if its with coding try bmwcoding (dot) com)
