A couple of months back I took my car to BMW and paid for them to recode the car to play MP3. I never tried this out at the time assuming it would work! Anyway in the meantime I've had the car remapped by emaps and this weekend I attempted to play an MP3 and you guessed it - 'does not recognise media' comes up on the idrive screen. The question is if I take it back to BMW to recode, will the map get wiped?

Might be worth chatting to Emaps. I was under the impression that their mapping shouldn't wipe off any pre-existing coding of the car, i.e. mp3 playblack, folding mirrors etc. Maybe they can put the mp3 playback back on if it was wiped.

Normally, your car needs a full update and that will erase the remap.
Talk to your dealer, I heard if you have the latest Progman version, the dealer only has to 'add' MP3 compatibility. Make sure they don't give you a full update!

correct, it's on the retrofit menu on the Progman.

Try it and see, Simon usually puts the map back on for free anyway or at worst a few quid to cover fuel costs

cd changer will not recognize mp3s. Also I dont know about 5 series, but I can only play mp3 discs in the main slot, not the DVD (navi) slot... One more thing, you probably already know, but its best to use cdrs not cdrws, and dvdrs will not work for mp3s!

the dvd drive is supposed to play MP3s provided you don't mind not having a navigation map. Haven't tried it though. There are members that do it.

I've got the Business sat nav(606) and it plays DVD MP3's. My former cars (3 Series E90) with Professional nav (609) all played DVD MP3's in the DVD-slot.
