Ok...let me first take a deep breath (something I advise for you guys too)...
I recently installed my Magnaflow 14862 on my 2006 550i. I will admit that there is a noticeable difference in interior "calmness". There is a low droning sound at slow speeds, especially when RPMs are between 1500 and 3500, but not unbarable by any means.
Funny, I had to pick-up my Aunt and Uncle for a wedding (in their 70s and have BMWs and Mercedes for the past 20 years)and I was really concerned they were going to say "Sounds like you need a new muffler", because of the sound; however, nothing. So that was a major pass on the "annoying sound" test.
It is definitely aggressive, but nowehere near as annoying as Dinan or other high performance exhaust sounds. Some of the cars I've been around lately sound like F-17 fighters or NASCAR at full throttle. Not good for regular driving.
My wife says she hears me coming from around the corner (quiet neighborhood in Queens),but that it sounds nice, not obnoxious.
Its all preference and I prefer some sportiness to go with my led foot. If this were a daily commuter going to the morgue for work everyday, definitely would be a pass. BUT, if you are into customizing/moding your bimmer and you don't want to spend thousands, this is one of the best mods to do after Sprint Booster.
Don't be scared...the water is fine. The best part, if you really don't like it, you can put your stock two mufflers back on (for 8 cyl/1 muffler for 6 cyl) and you can sell your magnaflow on this board.
I love my car and the muscle sound it now has when I need it...go for it guys...

I have magnaflow on my 530 aswell and I love it.I been expossed to many different exhaust and had bb triflow ,dinan, borla on my previuos m3 and this is far the best bang for your buck.I was hessitant but so glad I went with magnaflows.sounds real good especially going through tunnels and downtown streets where you hear the exhaust echo out.I think the afe intake contributes to the sounds also.
search for my recent thread on got my magnaflows.I got exhaust clip in there with the help of mrfva

My Ride: Stock 2004 530i with most options. 18" M5 look alike wheels Bought August 2008 with 34k on it.
2006 Range Rover Sport with K&N filter and Borla cat back exhaust.
Maybe a Defender soon or an old M3 to play with, although the wife has other ideas!

Curious, Why did you purchase in the first place? What were your expectations to begin with?
I am in no way slamming anyone who made the choice to put this muffler on his or her car; I just wanted to relay my experience. If YOU are pleased with it on your car than that's all that matters.

I had it on my 530 and have heard it on gregg2gs and bimmer722's 550 and 545, respectively. Mine was nothing like what you described above, so something definitely sounds off from what you are describing above. It sounds like the welds weren't perfect or there was leaking somewhere along the line.
