The last time we discussed this (can't find the thread at the moment) we posted the following link:

If you look at part #21, you'll see from the diagram that if the part actually was shaped like that, it might fit both LCI and pre-LCI. The picture I posted above from Tony clearly looks like it won't fit an LCI car. My only questions now are whether or not the item in Tony's pic is an OEM part or someone else's and whether or not BMW has changed the part to accomodate the LCI trunk. It seems to me that they'd have to make a new finisher to accomodate the new trunk since M5s still have the more finished look, right?

What's also strange is that on the other parts site, they have LCI information but no M5 LCI. If you use a 550i as an example, the following page shows the same diagram as above but no details for part #21:

I checked with Garry Romani at Newport BMW , he checked and told me there is no change for the M5 trunk finisher # .The 08 is the same # as prior years
Edit addition: maybe the LCI M5s use the old trunk thus the trunk finisher never needed to be changed ?????

 

Maybe the M5s use the old trunk and that's why the #hasn't changed ??

 

I've PM'd Tony at Quad M to get the final answer, he should know if the M5 Trunk finisher will fit the LCI's....if they don't I've got one for sale

 

I was thinking the same thing today but couldn't check the part number on an LCI M5 since neither parts site has the latest information and I'm too lazy to find my parts disc to see if there's any proof available.

Tony should be able to clear all this up...

 

I have always assumed that the LCI M5 had the same trunk as the pre-LCI M5, but had never checked out the part numbers on my ETK. So I just tried to check it now but for some reason my ETK does not show a listing for the LCI E60 M5, even though the LCI E61 M5 is in the list

I would still assume that the LCI M5's trunk AND trunk finisher are the same as the pre-LCI versions, and that the finisher will not fit the non-M5 LCI E60's trunk.

Rudy, the picture of the trunk finisher that you posted above is the US version with the narrower, and taller license plate indentation. I'm sure that one wouldn't fit the LCI trunk because the licese plate indentation is too tall. I thought that the European version finisher had a better chance of fitting since the spot for the plates is not as tall as the US one, but after looking at pictures of my own Euro finisher (whcih I took prior to my installation....see below), it doesn't even look like that one would fit either.

 

I heard back from Tony @Quad M, he says he has not sold a Trunk Finisher to an 08 owner. I'll take mine to the dealer this week to see if it fits.

What are you talking about? I think I clearly confirmed earlier in this thread that it wont fit.

 

We did "confirm" it but somewhere I think someone quoted Tony as saying they fit so we just got a confirmation from him that basically, he doesn't know.

My bet is that they don't fit...

 

Tume, you have a Euro Finisher right ? By the looks of the new trunk on the LCI I would concur with you, but the North American Trunk Finishers are very different due to the size of our plates so the question is still somewhat unanswered..... and BTW don't raise your voice at me !!
