I ordered a pre-painted M5 trunk finisher from BMW Niederlassung in Munich and picked it up when I was there in early August. I installed it the day I got back from Germany in mid August but have not had a chance to post pictures until now. It was very easy to install with just the included double stick tape and the two screws that hold down the US license plate holder. I bought the European version of the bumper finisher which has the wider area for the european size license plates as I don't like the ones with the narrower US plate versions. The hight of the indentation is definately enough to fit a US plate, but I had to turn the plastic plate holder upside down and drill new holes in it. As it has been a long time since I did the installation I don't remember the reason why I turned the plate holder upside down, but there must have been a good reason for it. Alternately you can cut the top of the license plate slightly and make it fit without any changes to the plate holder (SubterFUSE did his that way).
Here are the pictures......the first one is the "before" picture and the rest are the after pictures. By the way, check out what the first character of my German plate and the first character of my California plate spell out . No, ........I did not purposely use both license plates just so that it would spell out M5......I have always done that with all my Euro delivery and imported BMW's.....so it was just a coincidence.

I don't know how much the US version is, and I don't know whether the US dealer's parts department would know by now or not. The M5's are just starting to arrive in the US and the parts departments may have it in their computers already.
Generally BMW does not bring pre-painted parts to the US, that's why many of us had to buy the primed M-Kits and have it painted ourselves. In other markets you can get either primed or painted. I ordered mine a couple of weeks before going to Munich because I wanted to get the pre-painted one and wanted to make sure they had time to paint it.

what happens if you get a problem with the auto open button on the fob?
normally you would use the key, but this conversion hides that, can it be accessed from inside or manually elsewhere?
