I recently asked my local dealer if they could fit me an M-Sports steering wheel, and they weren't sure if they could - told me that the car might need re-programming to recognise the new wheel. They contacted BMW who replied that is was not a recommended upgrade :-(

I have seen this in Peters and Hobi's car and it is ok, BMW approved him to sell as it is 100%ly based on their wiring, all needed procedures is either done by Hobi-depending where you live or DIY I guess there will be a DVD, but there will be other gadgets stay tuned... countdown: 6-7 days!!!!

I couldnt wait for Hobi's switchange site so i contacted a guy called John Thorne who i think ( correct me if i'm wrong) worked on this upgrade with him.
John told me that i would need an M3 steering wheel / slip ring / and paddles and will fit it as soon as the parts
arrive at his new workshop in Milton Keynes

Do you really mean M3 wheel? Wouldn't that have the wrong buttons? Better to get E60 M5 wheel with E60 buttons..?

Understood. My point was that I asked about a regular M-Sport wheel (as fitted to 530d Sport) and they couldn't/wouldn't do it because BMW said it wasn't an approved upgrade. I think BMW and the dealers are missing out on aftermarket upgrade opportunities. I guess they would prefer to sell me a new car rather than a new steering wheel :-)
I imagine there are many of us eagerly looking forward to the launch of Hobi's mod kits - please keep us informed.

Dear E60-family-members, talked with HOBI few min.ago and time to clear somethings, Hobi will be back in some days... 
and explain all!
BUT just to avoid any confusion:
1. from legal point of view HOBI's SMG paddle kit, is NOT a BMW approved kit= meaning
it is an AFTERMARKET kit (like anything we buy from Hamann or Eisenmann,etc) ok.
(True that BMW saw his car, and did not say anything against, but as it is NOT BMW product it cannot be BMW approved).
2.Why there is NO PROBLEM with the warranty from BMW ?
Because to install the kit NO CUT of BMW wiring is needed! THAT is what only counts. Also DIY on DVD.
3. MK has nothing to do with this, non of my buisness though. ///M3 nor X5 steerings or wirings will not work for our E60s.It is totally different.
4. all we need is ///M5 steering wheel and HOBI's paddle kit
5. March 1st be there, paypal, visa, mastercard is accepted, amounts and payments in POUNDS ?.
