Word of caution as he's been having some logistical issues as of late, but I am not sure if the problems he's been having is related to only the M-Technic kits. Since youre doing M5 conversion there might not be the same issues. He's a good guy and means well, so you may give him a shot if you dont find a solution.Maybe you can work a deal with him, pay half up front, then when he gets the parts in hand and is ready to ship you pay the other half, that way both side are protected.
