Andy -- first off, I gotta say -- this is a MOD to HAVE!! I can live with all the other stuff but this is way individual and way unique. Congratulations.

A couple of questions:

1. Where can you buy a NEW M5 Cluster? I have an 05 545i like you and would like to follow your footsteps to the T.
2. Did the dealers charge you for the reprog and the "individual" attention?
3. How much did you pay, total?
4. How easy is it to swap the clusters it when you take to the dealer for reprog? I realize you don't do this anymore but initially...
5. Have you also removed your check engine light now that it is recoded to your car? No more tranny error messages???

Why not approach Garry, you guys get 25% discount don't you ?

2. Did the dealers charge you for the reprog and the "individual" attention?
This is up to the individual dealer. Marco from Italy did it at his local BMW dealer as part of a normal software update - no charge, AlexFW as well gets all kind of work done at his dealer. Just ask for a software update (paid) and ask if they would do this swap for you. If you tell them you will buy a new M5 cluster from them + a software update they'll have more motivation. If they give you any crap like it can't be done...make printouts from members who have done it here.

3. How much did you pay, total?
199euro for the cluster (ebay) and 75 euro for the cluster chip work. (I had it done HERE if any euro members are interested)

4. How easy is it to swap the clusters it when you take to the dealer for reprog? I realize you don't do this anymore but initially...
It takes 60sec ! look at my first post pics on page 1 ...very easy.

5. Have you also removed your check engine light now that it is recoded to your car? No more tranny error messages???
The car recognizes the M5 cluster as it's own - no error messages whatsoever. After an update with progman, it's usual to connect the car to DIS which clears all messages that have popped up since the last update.

I'm not sure to which 4.5K you're refering to .

The rpm color tape position is taken from the DME. Now, on my car I had a redline at 6500 (stock) and after the remap (6700). The moment I coded the M5 cluster it read the data from the DME and correctly represented this on the color tape. see foto.

The guy you're refering to had this done on a NEW and uncoded M5 cluster. On a used M5 cluster you will need to wipe the data and input your VIN number. To clarify :---> The "hot swap" method HAS to be appled in EITHER case.
My contact can do the chip work on a used M5 cluster for any member if you send him the cluster along with your VIN number. Coding will then have to be done at your dealer. (make sure he is willing and understands how to do it!)

international insured shipping is pretty reliable last time I checked...

ohh no That wont be a problem , I will be buying a new cluster anyways. so this will be my scenario

Buy New Cluster
Go To Dealer
Ask to initialize coding from older Cluster
Then Sawp
Continue Coding to new Cluster

Is there a part number difference for PRE 09/05 Vehicles? And Even there is would either work on Both pre and pose 09/05 vehicles?

Your scenario should work. I recommend that you get a full software (CIP) update first and then proceed to the cluster coding...

I'm not aware of any difference - during my research nothing of importance came up with regards to this.

this picture in your first page shows 8000 rpm red line, but i guess it takes a full cycle to get the data from DME for the RPM to set

the engine's off buddy !

color tape is activated from 2nd ignition position onwards and settles to the final position when the engine reaches it's safe operating temperature.
