When I saw the M5 cluster installed on nicke60gre's car - I was sure to get one next time I saw a reasonable deal on ebay.
Picked up this one for 199euros. It looks sick ! :wow: Long story short : everything works like stock : speed: check ! rpm: check! rpm adjusted temp ban: check! (max rpm automatically adjusts for your type of engine) fuel indicator: check! oil temp: check! cruise control indicator: check! ...of course I get the usual transmission warning/error since I have an auto. This occurs when I start the car and drive in D and DS. In manual (steptronic), N, R : the error symbol in the display disappears as the i-drive warning as well. No biggie, I can live with it until a solution arises...I guess some mod with the cluster itself will have to take place. The cluster lights up automatically (irrelavant of light position) and the colors are just beautiful. Bottom line: this a wonderful interior mod for manual/smg owners, as they will not get any transmission errors. stock cluster: Attachment 35504 removing it: Attachment 35505 Attachment 35506 Attachment 35507 M5 cluster Attachment 35508 cold engine temp ban... Great, Andy!
:wow: Awezome:twoup: Love it! Is the cluster come uncoded or used? Is your current km shown correctly? Is the speed and rpm working correctly? Can you remove ///M logo? :wow: j/k Once again I love it: :) |

congrats. nice mod

Andy, need to know if with SMG tranny it displays the gear engaged : ex. 1, 2, D1, D2 .
Does your cluster displays D1, D2, DS, M1, M2, etc. ? I imagine that I could fine the answer in your clips, but I am with GPRS at the sea :) Finally, someone with SMG do the mod! Vegas ? :P |

Wow!!
And the oil-temp is working too ! How is that possible? The little dot (.) next to the total distance means that someone has changed the instrument cluster :getlost: Cheers from Vevey in Switzerland  |

On "manual" transmission that gauge turns to a consumption meter, while in "auto" cars is an oil temperature meter. Cheers!! |
How can you get rid of the tamper dot?

Not really (without modification)

Damn, i was hoping that it would be something that the dealer can just recode and eliminate.
Any km modification is visible by the dealer (until now, on E60 cluster) |
The dot showing mismatch between what showing and what store in computer. I wish dealer can do coding for us. :)

More specifically, different VIN numbers stored between CAS and Cluster  (when M5 cluster is used) |
That might scare me more because dealer cannot program the car next time  So I still wait for a cleaner solution. I really really want it :)

Put your stock cluster back when visiting your dealer. It's a 3 min. job. No faults, no signs.
The M5 cluster in my case, carried over my current km's on the car. I don't know if it will last, we'll see. Anyway, these items are of secondary importance to me - ...for someone with a smg/manual transmission, one can always buy the M5 cluster new, get the dealer to code it with your own VIN and your set to go. |

exactly Nick, this is what I had in mind.

Andy, yesterday I saw your clips and I noticed that in the first one there is a frame that shows "6" in the orange little screen .
But why only a frame ? Do you see some gears, on it, or not ? In september I will chain myself at the dealer till they don't give me an M5 cluster to install 2 minutes on my car to verify if it works properly about gear engaged! |

If I understand this right, everything works as OEM except the alarm from the gearbox (steptronic) in D or DS????

just wanted to add something thing to that it is possible to change the milage on the e60.. but unlike most cars the e60's instrument cluster only shows the millage of the cluster, you can change to a new cluster and that would possible show zero KMs... the thing is with the CAS system which controls every thing, it has the actual milage of the car, and the key has another copy of the milage which is updated everytime you stick it in the ignition, (the key also has the service record in the idrive, and faults)... so even if you change the milage on the instrument cluster, you have to change it in the CAS or the dealer will know, once you modify the CAS there is no need to modify the info on the key just stick it in the ignition and it will update itself.... |

Andy, I'm not sure that SSS won't reject it during cluster part number validation  as I haven't try with a new cluster.

the CAS would also have to carry over the actual km's to the cluster. CAS transfered my exact km's to my used M5 cluster but don't ask me how - I'm still reading up on this !

Fantastic mod Andy. I think I will have to follow what you did since I have the shifter paddles and gear shift.
Excellent Mate! |

Alex, in steptronic the gears are indicated ! just like smg.
"just like smg" : ?? Did anyone with SMG buy the M5 cluster ? |
Does all other messages work for exemple low gas, door open etc?? Is it only the steptronic that does not work, all others ok?

here no dealers would do it, first they will claim loss of warranty and second, will not do it as it is impossible.
Then again we need to print out E60 pages and show them   Guys you are awesome and congrats! For a 3 l diesel I will not do it but would need sg at least till 270 as we did it over... |

will do Alex - on the weekend..
I get the 1,2,3,4,5,6 in the lower display. Very good! Vegas alert |
Does it stop reading above 260km/h like the non-M5 cluster?
Does the lights from cold start working at the same rpm than the non-M5 cluster? |

Does the lights from cold start working at the same rpm than the non-M5 cluster? It is DME (speed limiter) related, otherwise reads all the way till 330 ...and maybe more :P Tacho, thus cold start red line RPM indicator, takes signal from DME, so depends on the car's engine, not on the cluster. |

correct Nick, anyways, if you have a HUD you will see the speed beyong 260 as well !

That is my point. I will only consider a M5 cluster if it keeps reading above 260.....
..the looks are an added bonus - no doubt, it looks the business ! |
