M Tech Part Number Discrepency (Please Help)
Hello all:
I have a 2009 535i without PDC (it is post LCI, of course)
The part number from the BMWUSA site is: 51 71 0 433 920
The part number recommended by the body shop used by my dealership is: 51 71 0 429 408.
According to the RealOEM site, this part has ended, here is the link:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?mo...hg=51&fg=95
Now..I just received a call from the body shop that is used by my dealership. This guy seems pretty decent, but he said that the part number for my VIN is the one that ends in 408. He also said that I also needed new air intakes, and a bunch of other parts so that the kit would fit. I found this very odd, because I haven't read anything on this site about all of those extra parts. He said that he spoke directly with the service manager at the dealership and also looked it up on BMW's password protected site that allows him to enter my VIN and tell him all of the information about my car. It also recommends the part number ending in 408. With this guy's estimate it would cost me over 5,000 for this M kit installation. That is crazy to me.
What are your thoughts.
Thanks,
John

my thoughts:
Stay away from that bodyshop/dealer.
Post your location, perhaps a member local to you can recc a better vendor closer to you
OR
Order your LCI M-tech kit from Trinity Autosport or Eurorev (pre-painted). That way all you would have to do is install...You will still come under $5000.
***They've shipped out of state before (without issues), if you are not in CA/So Cal
And both the vendors mentioned are reputable and know what they are doing....GL

I have a 2008 535XI. The part # for the M-kit I put on my car is 51 71 0 433 920. I ordered it from Garry at BMW of Newport. I had it shipped directly to my friend's body shop and he painted and installed it. There were no missing parts or anything else required. I don't know of any changes to the '09 front end. If the BMW website lists the same number then I'm sure that is the one you would need. Call Garry at BMW of Newport and he will check your VIN and you can be confident that you have the right part. Plus, you'll get the E60.net discount.
Well, here is an email from Garry of Newport to answer my question:
"The 408 has been replaced by the 920 with all the attaching parts put in the kit that you once had to buy separately.
Garry"
I am sure this will be helpful to those finding themselves in a similar situation. The guy at the bodyshop is very receptive, though. I do not think that he is trying to screw me as he is listening to my input, promptly returning all of my calls, etc. I think it is the dealership that they work with that is the problem. If any of you are from Central Florida then you know who I mean. How is it that I can find the answer and the Service manager at the dealership cannot?
Anyhow, I am awaiting another call from the bodyshop as they are trying to get some more concrete info to make sure that this is the case with the kit. They will not provide an estimate until they are sure everything matches up. Even though I now know that it does.

John, I will check on this issue with the BMW dealer in CA.
I just spoke with him and he also stated that the 920 kit also requires the application additional pieces and parts in the instructions:
ie:
Impact Bar
Impact absorbers
Front bumper holder
Air guides
Air ducts
Thanks!

I had one vendor tell me that the LCI kit is the one that requires extra pieces to be bought separately.
Anyone else with a Post LCI (920 kit) want to chime in? I am about to order and want to make the right decision.
I spoke with another body shop that wants to charge me $1000 for labor. But I do not think they deal with BMWs that much and the guy didn't seem to know too much about the installation.
Thanks.

Thanks. So you can tell me unequivocally that there are no extra parts or accessories needed with the 920 kit? I am sure your friend would have told you if he needed to purchase extra parts.

Just order from Garry. There should be no difference with the pieces between any of the kits, since the pre-LCI vs LCI m-tech look identical. Post #3 (ENstig8r) has an LCI '08 with no issues or missing parts...that would be good enough for me to order it from Garry.

No, I did not need any extra pieces. I'm sure he would have told me because he would have wanted more cash.
From what I understand, the kits that were sold early on for the LCI's needed those extra parts. Now, BMW has had time to update the kits to fit properly.
