I would not want the M5 simply because it doesn't have Active Steering.

I love that feature on my 545i, and can't imagine owning a car without it ever again.

Alright.... I don't mean to continue to correct you. However, the 5 series is in fact a "limousine" as well as a "Saloon"

just my 2 cents worth,

Call it what you want, but other than the LSD and some extra bling I don't see much difference between the M5 and the 550. When they start shipping M5 with the 5.5L 580hp M6 motor in 2006 things will get interesting. In the mean time I'll take the bling from the M package add H&Rs, Brembos and a nice exhaust and what am I missing? It has the same torque. You need new rims with either car .. all new BMW rims are FUGLY

A real sports car? That would be the GT3 ... considerably faster than the first or upcoming second generation E60 M5 ... and I am driving it today.

Fast in speed is still not the common definition of "sports car"

Yes, GT3 is albiet a very fast car is still not by definition a sports car. Rather, its a "Grand Touring" (surprise.. surprise..) car

Believe me, this is far from fair from a BMW M5 owners prospective.

why would you feel so annoyed if the M-pack was offered here? you have a great stable and shouldnt worry that they look similar, you know what you have and anyone else who would care to know what an M5 is would know that the M-sport is not the M5...someone like me doesnt see any need for the M type power as I could go that route if I chose, but I do love the lines of the aero pack that M designed for the E60...in England, like so many members speak of here, most E60s are M Sport E60s, it doesnt take away from the M5 at all, and should be viewed as a nice lookin' cousin

Well.. I am merely stating a common theme amongst the M car owners. Nuthing more... nuthing less I've said nuthing about me being annoyed for the M kit offered in US. I am not. But I do know that BMW USA will not offered the M kit in US as an option until the final production year of E60. For reasons of operational profitability and the legal liabilty from the "M" car owners.

A couple things thou...
1) I do find it humorous when I see non-M cars install an M badge on it. It is a form a flattring, but also hilarious to me. I find the same humor when I see a Civic "Type R" in US.

2) Albeit its funny, I do believe in a free society people ought to be allowed to have the freedom of expression. That is to say that they can do what they want w/ their own car.

...i hear ya, but thats one of the reasons i wouldnt get an ///M, i dont feel it necessary to feel above anyone, i could afford it if i chose, its just not worth it to me, but its beautiful for what it is

i too find that hilarious with badges, and would not do such a thing, i rather the debaged look personally, because, who cares what i own, just me as far as i can tell, i want what looks best, and either bmw na will allow it , or i'll just buy the pieces and have the dealer install

...hopefully you wont look down upon my baby too much for lookin' hot

if only u would tell me which model the E62 is?

Well, my last M car was running debadged. The M package on the M5 is just bling ... no performance added other than LSD. There is no point in having 500hp and 9000 RPM redline in a 3700lbs car .. what counts is torque. Anyhow I doubt the M package will come with a M badge and who really cares.

I was told by a reliable source inside BMW that M6 will likely come with a 580hp motor at the start. The M6 with a 508hp motor at 3700hp is not competitive with 997TT, 996GT3, etc. At that point the M5 will transition to the new engine. That's all I know.

Well, those rumours I've heard too, but then BMW released the official info on the M6, and it shows the same engine as on the M5.

So, it's all rumours and the only confirmed thing is, the M6 will have the same engine as the M5. Click on the above link...
