Contemplating upgrading my 18" OEM sport wheels to 19"'s and from the pictures I've seen lowering the car is a must. I would rather not, as it's extra money and have heard there could be problems lowering an xi. Any thoughts and recommendations would be appreciated.

Mine's a 530Xi, so it might not be exactly the same, but I've been told by one of the most respected members on this board (who also happens to be one of the Xi pioneers!) that dropping an Xi may result in eternal hell...

But I hope that the above statement can be proven wrong. Whatever you do, do NOT cut the bumpstops and/or cut the springs though.

the xi models can be lowered with either coilovers or H&R sport springs

I'd either get coilovers or wait for the bilstein b6 or b8 shocks/ struts to come out and pair the bilsteins with eibach lowering springs.

Here we go again... LOL!

My old, 2007 530xi Sport - this car was modified beyond belief. ECU Remap? Yep! Lowered? Yep! 19" Staggered Wheels? Yep! Supercharger? Ask Sleepyca31!

i have XI as well and i did some research and i got following

1, some people lowered by spring with no problem
2, some people need to cut bump stop otherwise the car will sit right on the bump stop,
3, some people say if you cut the bump stop, your OEM shock will not be able to handle so will need aftermarket shock

i am thinking lowering too, but i think i have no choice beside going coilover, it is $$
i think only two coilover you can use for XI, H&R or KW V3

if you have the budget, go with KW V3, so far i havent heard anything bad about it from anyone
