Lojack?
I played with the idea of lo-Jack before the the savings on your insurance is minimal compares to the cost of putting it in.. like 530E60NL said... most likely .. insurance should cover for it..... not worth the money IMHO.....

I had LoJack installed on my previous 328i. Not worth it at all. Insurance is not much cheaper.

[/quote]Isn't it the same idea, though? When you call, they know exactly where you are. Or is it set up that they can only pinpoint the signal when it is in use?
...and why are you angry about it not being onstar?

Okay, so I'm not as angry as the smiley would have you believe -- just a bit surprised that a company like BMW can't execute similar technology to that of General Motors.
Here's my beef about BMW Assist -- in a nutshell, it isn't OnStar. BMW Assist cannot "see" the location of the vehicle without you placing a call to them. I think once you initiate a call to them, the car sends an SMS with current location information -- it's not like a satellite is actually able to find the car on its own. BMW Assist can't unlock the doors remotely, can't flash the lights or sound the horn remotely, etc. It really only provides an emergency connection if the airbag deploys and it can assist with service issues, I think.
Oh, and one more thing: Because of BMW Assist, we can't get Bluetooth. Heck, for all I know, BMW Assist is a factor in why we can't get Sirius radio with Navigation. (Okay, I'm probably just making that last one up but I think you see my point now.)

At this point, I see no reason to continue BMW assist past the first year. IF some of those other features get checked in the Communications Setup screen (traffic, etc). I may consider it.

I allways said I am not going to continue BMW Assist when the free year is over. There is nothing my cellphone provider can't do heling me.
BMW is not able to track cars, because they protect our privacy. I remember the FBI randomly picked cars with Onstar to listen what the ppl are talking about. BMW is not providing any service that allows hacking into our privacy. Actually a good idea, since there are aftermarket solutions for car tracking. But that definately makes BMW Assist useless, or definately not worth any money...
