I noticed a big difference on my previous car when I went to lightweight wheels so I'm investigating it again for my 550. Does anybody happen to know what the weight is of the OEM style 172 wheels is? Anybody have any good recommendations for a lightweight wheel/tire combo that they use on their e60?

Cant get any lighter than Bmw designed Dinan 19's 20lbs ea. 19x9 19x10r (pic in sig)

VMR are about the same to the 172's 27-29 plus tires

Those 172's are heavy I think the rears were like 29lbs..which is the 13kg... plus tires.

You can try HRE, BBS, Dinan all good fitment for BMW.

If your on a budget look at replicas but make sure they are Center bore specific, offset specific etc.. and keep the weight under 27lbs. The key also is light tires anything over a 265 tire is gonna average 27-30lbs per tire

So what's the best bang for your buck then in the world of lightweight wheels? I'd like to figure out a few options to keep an eye out for on the forum. I need to keep cost under control otherwise I'll have to buy my wife something expensive too.

Some 19" Forgestars have my eye at the moment. Can I use pull my tires and TPMS from my OEM wheels and put them a new set of wheels? My tire life is still good.
