LED DRL Replacement
#1
Have a 2004 530i with adaptive bixenon and the halogen daytime running lamps. The halogen DRL look ridiculous to me especially if I am going to upgrade the AE. Has anyone tried something like this to replace the halogen bulb with? I would need a resistor to avoid a bulb out warning correct?
LED DRL
Any overall experience with this site? Does anyone know what bulbs have bulb out warnings? Just the exterior?

I did something like this on my 2010 Lexus.
What I did was, found out the exact fuse # that powers the DRL. Removed the Fuse so that the DRL's are not powered up.
Then wired a SuperBright LED DRL from another fuse.
Now every genius here would be like, why didnt you use the DRL wire from the factory
1. Its not independatant = If you remove the halogen bulb wireing(or the bulb) you will end up loosing your high beam
2. The DRL atleast in the Lexus would only give out 9-10 volts( I am very sure this is the case with every car) -- Thats make the bulb not so bright and hence a DRL light.
I wanted a 12v power supply so wired stuff myself creating my own circuit.
Now I dont know if the same trick can be played with our IDrive sensitive BMW, since your telling me that you dont have the DRL turnoff in your Idrive.
I had asked the dealer to put that DRL option in for me when he was upgrading my software, but the SA didnt do it trying to give me some BS.
Anyway!

Ive got blue leds in my AE's and it does throw up a warning in the idrive, ive also got some resistors to stop it but never got round to fitting them.
If you need resistors look for a make that are heat free (got mine from ebay), they need to be ceramic as there is not much cable on the existing light cable that you have to connect them onto and you dont want to be mounting something that gets red hot on your plastic headlight case, at least with heat free your not going to be worried about it coming into contact with something else and doing damage!

Yes, this can be turned off by the dealer or someone that has the hardware to do the coding for you.
TRB: the dealer can't enable Welcome Light for you (assuming your car is late 2006 to have the updated light module). Only factory software like NCSExpert can't code that into the module.

My car is a 2004 530I. I am not sure what updated light module you mean. I thought LCI was 2008 forward?
Also are the exterior lights the only ones that would throw error codes without resistors?
