Sorry if this had been answer but I can't find much on e60.

Does the aftermarket drop-in air filter make any gain or should I just stick to stock? I'm thinking of getting the RPi scoop but not sure on the BMC or K&N air filter tho ....I have a 08 550i btw

much better at filtering indeed-I would stick with paper. I wasted money on a bmc with rpi scoops and was a total waste-not saying it doesnt make 1-2hp or whatever but was not at all noticable

Ok Ironically I decided to check out my filter since it had been awhile since I installed it. The thing looked pretty dirty and decided after this thread to just order a bmw paper filter. So I picked it up today and put it in and drove home. Immediatly my car took longer to rev up and felt choked as the RPMs climbed past 5k. I thought maybe it was in my head so drove the car a lot rest of the day and eve so it adapted thinking maybe the STFT and LTFT needed to adapt to change in air flow--well the car just felt smothered and slower noticably.

So I decided to try put my bmc back in and WOW-I have to say I didnt think I noticed a thing but once you get used to a BMC and go back to paper you will clearly see the difference.

Oh I admit it it-I would have swore up and down it was a waste-I guess we kind of get used to small changes and this was not something subtle. I literally thought I forgot to engage my bms powerbox which I thought the service guy somehow disabled accidently while he had my car for a minute-I realzied it wasnt that it was my car felt like it literally couldnt feed itself air fast enough.

Then I did a lot of reading and porsche 911 guys swear by the bmc filter up and down and all motorcyle people--I think bmc is legit v. kn is not necessarily going to show you any difference..

marketing hype! you would be the only person in the world to notice a 2hp difference on a 250hp car. in my experience, you'd be lucky to notice 15.
