key fob distance

I have 2 key fobs, both of which dont work unless im almost touching the car 
I have continually used the same keyfob for weeks in a bid to charge it (whilst driving), which hasnt worked.
Am I better off buying a new key fob or trying to replace the battery?
I have this type;
This is assuming its a keyfob problem and not the aerial?

If you know its the key then it could be the battery, you could take one apart and replace the battery if you're out of your warrenty period as you will have to pay for a new key anyway...

Newbie question.... as I have the above remote along with start/stop push buttons, could this indicate I have the comfort access installed? or not necessarily?

For the Newbie, you probably don't realize that information is in your owner's manual ... here's part of the page about comfort access. You can download a copy of the owner's manual from the information section in this forum < https://5series.net/information/ >
And yes, unlike some remote entry systems, the BMW range is more limited in distance.

Hi Luigi, thanks for the datasheet, but I already know how the comfort access works, I just didnt think I had it, but I will give it a try later.
My original questions is, as per the keyfob I have, does this denote I have comfort access or not?

No, two ways to find out ... see if you can start your car without inserting the fob into the slot: foot on brake - fob in your pocket- push start button! Or see if you can open the doors as described in the manual. If it works then you have CA - OR you can call your dealer SA - give your VIN and ask if it's one of the options on your car.

if you don't have comfort access you can just hold the key fob to your chin to get more range...
