your post are great!! just wanted to see if anyone had anything else to suggest!

I think the scoop is a must from what i've read. Filter, scoop, and exhaust. How much HP gain is this going to give me?
tough to say exact numbers i would think...you should shoot a pm to RPipower or joe@raceprecision

nerwyll or joe from trinity might also be able to help you out with that...

BTT:

so once again even on the N54/TT engine it seems the stock box is good to go....

definitely good to go and money saved for other mods here...

that scoop was funny, but im sure it works just as good. Just kind of ghetto/janky approach

I'm quite sure it was not as good. RPi put over 40 dyno hours and made a lot of prototypes before they finally gained significant horsepower. The chances that these characters gained HP from a mudpan or some ductwork is slim to none.

Got a chance to dyno the new Injen intake for the 535 today. The results were not surprising. After the car sat for about 15-20 minutes, I measured the temp at the intake tubing IAT. It was at 184F.
E, did you happen to measure temps of stock box vs injen intake?

I'm just throwing this info out there as I personally when it comes to mods like to keep it simple soo... I would definitely prefer to run the stock air box with a drop in as well...I'm not b/c of other testing that I have seen. I'd love to see more data...

Pretty extensive open element vs stock air box testing was done over at n54 a while back. I will look for the thread(s). Anyway, I believe the conclusion was that with stock/slightly raised boost levels the stock air box was the way to go since open element made no improvements. However, once the boost was turned up much higher than stock the air box would actually produce a pressure drop/resistance and cause a loss of power. At high boost levels the n54 made more power with an open element rather than the stock air box.

Obviously this applies only to the turbo N54 motors that are running aggressive tunes (if you have stock tune/not high boost tune or a NON-turbo e60 stock air box is probably the way to go). I'd love to see more back to back testing on n54 running high boost.

As a side note...In my personal setup I am running full time water/meth injection so even if the temps are increased by the open element my water/meth cools the charge down before going into the motor....so I am more concerned with pressure drop. Like I said if more data is brought forward on high boost cars proving this wrong I would gladly go back to the stock air box
