Off course i unerstand that the K40 is probably better, but is it that much better for the money? I have the Valentine right now, and it is perfect. I am confused.

Me, too. Why do you think the K40 would be better? Maybe because of the VG-2 detection. I personally think you have the best with the V1.

Doctor Diesel, woah, it's been a while since I've seen you here. How've you been?

The Valentine 1 is the best there is. They also come out with upgrades all the time, just call them to ask about your serial number and find out if they've got a new upgrade for your unit.

He's probably been busy doing some 'doctoring' to pay for his car!

Valentine 1 is better than K40.

Better detection. No installation required. You can move it to other cars.

Can you point me to evaluations comparing K40 against V1? I have a V1 and very happy with its performance. However, I work at a DoD (Department of Defense) military installation and Radar Detectors are illegal. They do a hands on badge check upon entry and I have been hassled about my window unit. I do not want to try to hide this unit as I move it from car to car for trips, vacations etc. I intend to install a K40 on my 645 and by every review of the K40 against other ?installed? units was satisfied I would not loose ground to the V1 performance I was used to. I intend to purchase in about two weeks due to an expected discounted sale even though my 645 will not be in hand until late Jan early Feb 05. I would use the V1 in the Audi and my truck as necessary and not have to worry about the moving in/out of the 6er.

Thanks to Jimbo for pointing me to some new research sources. Unfortunately there were no direct actual comparisons between K40 hardwired remote system (sensors mounted at front and rear bumpers) and the V1. Most of these comparisons were between a $200 K40 window mounted unit and other detectors. And one was a forum where someone made an indirect comparison between a K40 Laser system to a V1 radar detector.

Looks like I?ll be the guinea pig. I am convinced through reading the articles listed below and my own needs that the hardwired remote stealth K40 is what I need. I?ll then put my V1 in the 6er as well and do my own, albeit unscientific, comparison. Look for this sometime in February.

I?ll keep a watch on e60.net for any further discussion on radar detectors in the meantime.
