First off, to the forum
Easy on the caps typing, it infers you are YELLING
The upper right search bar is a useful tool when looking for answers and researching mods as many topics (including this one) have been discussed before.
Might want to update your sig or profile with what type of e60 you have and your location as this will help answer future q's (if needed)
Okay, regarding the K & N air filter, many member are either using that or a BMC filter in conjuction with an RPI air scoop (again, a quick search will get you more info on an RPI air scoop). An aftermarket air filter will allow more into you engine/allow your e60 to breathe better, like when you are running, the more air, the better...so get one..
if you decide on an RPI scoop as well, Trinity Autosport sells a package including both scoop and K & N or BMC air filter...

K&N is a nice little Mod for your car, and certainly worth the cost!

Is there a big difference between the two brands? Is one better than the other? Curious as I was pricing the two out, that BMC was a bitter more, thanks.
for the performance wise, you will barely noticed the differences from stock, so as the BMC.

I bought K&N because they will last and can be reused years after years,
