Hello Everyone,

I'm thinking of changing stock air filter out to the K&N brand.Car still under warranty, and oil change will be needed shortly, should I install after getting oil changed by dealer. Are the benefits said about this filter true, and or worth the money?

People have reported about 5-7 Hp gains. However, some people have also reported that since the K&N filter lets more air in, it can also let in smaller particles.
I would just wait until after the oil change, just to avoid any problems with the BMW guys. They probably wouldn't even notice, but I would just wait.

I have used K&N on my cars for several years now. Performance and re-use were my reasons. Never had an issue with dealer service... I just tell them upfront that they don't need to mess with the air filter.

I can't say for certain whether I have "saved" money because I end up cleaning the filters frequently.

Here is a thought... if your oil service is included in your purchase... then wait; have a clean filter installed. Take the car home and install the K&N. Save the new clean filter for when you sell/trade the vehicle. You will likely be able to sell the K&N filter for a few bucks.

I do this on all of my cars, because when it comes right down to it, your engine is just a big air pump, and if it flows into the engine more easily, it HAS to be a good thing!

I have used K&N's on all of my cars, 545i, Porsche 993, G35, even my 1976 2002. Works like a charm. If you keep your car for a long time like I do, these filters end up costing few dollars/yr. as long as you clean them annually and you get better performance depending on the vehicle.
