I'm very much interested in your project, as I'm on the same pathway of upgrading my CCC by a CIC and afterwards enhancing the sound of my BMW Hifi-system.

Technic already gave me some good advices regarding the setup. The target budget is around 2000 grand.
My key principles are: use the existing wiring as far as possible, focus on sound not db/bass and installation completely hidden in trunk of my E61.
At the moment I plan with
- processor: MS-8 (using 3 amp channels - 1 for center + 2 for rear)
- amp: JL XD600/6 (2 channel for front and 4 channel for midbass bridged - in case I go for the Jehnert + Earth. midbasses)
- front: Rainbow SLC 210.25 NG
- rear: Rainbow SLC 210.25 NG or Micro Precision 5.8 MKII
- center: OEM Individual Center or Micro Precision 5.8 MKII
- midbasses underseat: Rainbow W-200X or Jehnert EX200 or Earthquake SWS-8X
- sub: none
- harness: of course made by Technic
But I'm not sure whether its possible to run the 2 rears with the MS-8 amp.
Any suggestions for the rear and midbass decision?

Nigel + Nelson:
Brilliant would be if you add the decision criteria + pros and cons of your chosen solution.
E.g. regarding the amp: why you've chosen a A/B class amp and not a D-class?

Why you only have 2 amp channels of the MS-8 left with the planned setup? Are you gonna bridge the MS-8 amp channels?

I'm also new to the car audio topic -so please be patient with me.
In hindside I dont think bridging of MS-8 channels is possible.

You only have 8 outputs channels from the MS-8.
In your configuration you use 6 outputs (1 per side of your 3-way system) from the MS-8, right?
Does that mean you dont use the rear speakers and the underseat midbasses, because you mentioned using the 2 spare MS-8 channels for the center and the potential sub? Why you skipped them?
In case you bridge 2 channels at the amp do you need 2 input signals at the amp from 1 output channel at the MS-8 via a Y-RCA cable? Or does it work differently?

In my case where you drive the front tweeter passively via the door mids you save 2 channels at the MS-8 for the rear speakers, right?

Matt,

You will be able to run the rears if you use coaxial speakers for your rears and use the passive crssovers for the front SLC's.

1. front left SLC passsive
2. front right SLC passive
3. left midbass (underseat)
4. right midbass (underseat)
5. left coaxial(rear)
6. right coaxial(rear)
7. center channel

You can have the MS8 power the rears and center channel. You can not bridge the built in amp on the MS-8.

Compromises are gonna need to be made because of having only 8 chanel output on the ms-8.

Im personally running a 3 way front active set, center and sub.

Nelson,
after reading through the MS-8 Manual I got it.

Could you please enlighten me re my question:
In case you bridge 2 output channels at the amp do you need the input signal from the MS-8 at 2 input channels at the amp?
Would you use a Y-RCA cable or does it work differently?

The build-in amp of the MS-8 has a power output of 20W @ 4Ohm per channel.
Do you think that is enough to run the MP 5.8 properly?

In your planned setup
you will have to add speaker wiring from the amp to the front tweeter and midbasses in the doors to drive them actively, right?
Beacause in the OEM Hifi-system the front tweeter is driven passively, right?

Hey Matt, thanks for your interest, suggestions and great questions. I'm also running a three-way active setup in the front (base, mid-range and tweeters), along with the 5.8 driver and possible base driver in the trunk. I will leave the OEM under seat woofers and rear speakers as-is for now given that I believe my new setup will not require them.

I'll let Nelson answer the more technical questions given that although I do have feedback I can offer, I'm just too "green" at all this and do not want to steer you or anyone else, in the wrong direction.

We will be running new speaker wires from the amps in the trunk to drive the three-way active setup in the front doors/doorboards. Yes, currently the OEM tweeters are driven passively.

Just a quick update. I haven't forgotten about this thread. Things have just been very busy in the last few weeks. All the hardware has now been bought and I'm waiting for the shipment to arrive from New Jersey. Once I have everything in hand, I'll get started. I can't wait!
